dyeing

I dyed some new things recently, the first two pictures are from an overdye of green over yellow, yummy!

Fancy Tiger

Look what I found at Fancy Tiger in Denver!

The fabric and ribbon, I can't wait to work them into something. I printed more finches but printed some pink and green leaves behind them first.

New Idea

I was thinking about how to do some adult style designs and had this idea of a brown silhouette print on some pale green shirts I just dyed. I decided to try birds, finches, which I keep. I drew the design, cut the lino-block and tried a few sample prints. Below are the photos. I was not that happy with the prints. I have to use fabric paint so it will not wash out of the clothes and the texture of the paint is too runny, I have to figure this out. Anyway, enjoy the project so far.

Starting the linoleum cut with an outline:

Almost finished:

Trying to mix a nice brown color:

My first print on white paper, it's not what I wanted, too many blurs:

This print was made by painting different colors on the block print, I like the effect:

This is probably my favorite! I just dabbed some paint on the birds, there wasn't much left on the reeds and made a print, I like the mixture of colors it made!:

Close up of the patch, you can see the sparkly silver paint I used:

And here are some yellow infant tanks and tees that I dyed last night for another design, I love the yellow!

I also switched to Flickr (from PhotoBucket) so we'll see how that goes. And if you see me on Etsy, I've also changed my avatar to the pink peace design.

Dig It!

A few years ago I designed this patch for the boys (or any girls who like big machinery). It's called Dig It for the crane design. Last night

I did a new dye batch on some toddler size t-shirts using low water immersion dying which I love. You put the dry material in a plastic watertight bag (I use gallon size Ziploc) mix the dye with water and urea which retards the drying, and spoon the dye colors onto the dry cloth in the bag. You can also use squeeze bottles but that seems to take too much effort so I just use the spoon method, or you can dribble it from the dye container.

Anyway, the result is that you get the individual dye colors, the blended and some white background. Here is the result:
